Very interesting brief history of immigration in the US.

Follow The Money

"In the classic 70’s Watergate movie, All the President’s Men, the secret informant, Deep Throat, said, “Follow the money.” It was how reporters Woodward and Bernstein figured out what was really going on in the Nixon White House. If you want to figure out what is really going on in the economy, you do the same thing—follow the money." -- Greg Hunter

Ignoring the Good News?

"Why is the Fed Chief, all of a sudden, not beating the “recovery” drum? I think someone figured out that if they keep talking up the “recovery” and that does not happen, then the Fed will lose major credibility." -- Greg Hunter

Good 'Ole Bureaucracy

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people; one person to write the instructions and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people; one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created the following positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer, and then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people; an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $18,000 over budget. We must cutback overall cost." So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly.let it sink in.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter Administration?

Anybody?
Anything?
No?

Bottom line. We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of this agency...the reason for which hardly any person who reads this can remember!
Ready?

It was very simple...and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8-04-1977,

TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

And now it's 2010 -- 33 years later -- and the budget for this "necessary" department is at $24.2 billion a year. They have 16,000 federal employees and approximately 100,000 contract employees; and look at the job they have done! (this is where you slap your forehead and say, "what were they thinking?")

33 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

-- good 'ole bureaucracy.
And now, we are going to turn the banking system, health care, and the auto industry over to the same government?

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Glad That's Over:

President Barack  Obama's advisers plan to remove terms such as "Islamic radicalism" from a  document outlining national security strategy and will use the new  version to emphasize that the U.S. does not view Muslim nations through  the lens of terrorism, counterterrorism officials say.

And here I thought those 19 hijackers were Islamic Radicals. Whew! Good thing they were just common criminals. Common criminals who killed nearly 3000 people, destroyed the World Trade Towers. It'll come as a relief to the passengers of who took down the Islamic Rad...er...terrori...er...criminals, keeping them from destroying something else...like The White House.

Of course, those passengers are dead. Sorry, Mr. Beamer. It appears we've stopped rolling.

Obama's policy of slapping allies

Interesting take by Charles Krauthammer on Obama and our Allies:

"For those who know no history -- or who believe that it began on Jan. 20, 2009 -- and therefore don't know why this was an out-of-the-blue slap at Britain, here's the back story:"

The One Surefire Economic Prediction

How could the dollar not be weakened significantly with our current debt?

"The debt and commitments of America are just too large to ever payoff without printing vast sums of money. The federal debt and obligations stand at $71 trillion. And, as if that is not bad enough, that number is bound to increase dramatically in the next few years. Trillions of dollars will be spent on Fannie and Freddie, unfunded wars, bailouts of most of the states in the union, thousands of bank failures and ballooning government deficits–and these are just the highlights." - Greg Hunter

It is like “Baghdad Bob” is telling us everything is OK!

I just do not understand why Congress passed health care reform with all of the impediments we have to economic recovery. How is this “recovery” going to take hold? There are ballooning government deficits, new all-time records for foreclosures, fresh batch of insolvent banks that are taken over by the FDIC, hundreds of trillions of dollars in unregulated derivatives (like the ones wrecking the Greek economy) and dozens of U.S. states in dire financial trouble—to name a few! All this is just some of the backdrop for which Congress passed health care reform. These problems, and many more, make talking up a recovery look like “Baghdad Bob” is writing the wire copy.

Aetna CEO warns: Expect price hikes, bankruptcies, and policy changes

The President said that this bill would not have any impact on people who already had coverage, that it was about the uninsured, that there would be no change. Will this legislation change the coverage of people who are already paying for it?My perception is, yes, things will change. You might not have a plan that includes the exact same doctors. You might have plans that have richer benefits, and therefore you’re going to pay more for benefits you may or may not want. It would have been a better message to say, we’re going to make certain you maintain your eligibility.

Will insurance premiums go up?
The answer is yes, and some of the things that will drive those premiums are significant additional taxes the industry will ultimately have to pay in the first year.

AT&T Plans to Book $1 Billion Cost for Health-Care Law

If true, I sure hope this is not a trend. "AT&T, the biggest U.S. phone company, joins Caterpillar Inc., AK Steel Holding Corp. and 3M Co. in recording non-cash expenses against earnings as a result of the law. Health-care costs may shave as much as $14 billion from U.S. corporate profits, according to an estimate by benefits consulting firm Towers Watson. AT&T employed about 281,000 people as of the end of January."

Obama's Extremist Watch List

Pope accused of failing to act on sex abuse case

"As a cardinal heading the Vatican office that dealt with sex abuse cases, the future pontiff allegedly failed to respond to letters about the case."

I do not even know how to respond to this story except to say I hope he did not cover up anything.

The Promised Land

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , "pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land".
Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land".
Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land.
I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, Savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc. . . .
I called Lifeline, the suicide help line.
Got a call center in Pakistan ..
I told them I was suicidal.
They all got excited and asked if I could drive a truck...

12 Taxes in Health Care Law Violate Obama’s Pledge Not to Increase Taxes on Households Earning Less than $250,000

HOLD ON - there is also what some call indirect taxes Obama is imposing on you. It goes like this: The government needs revenue to pay for providing health care to all. I am all for helping those in need of health care but Obama said he was not going to raise taxes on anyone earning less than $250,000 - directly that is. Obama is going to raise taxes on insurance companies, drug manufacturers and medical device manufacturers. Not let me see, if it cost these companies more to make or produce a product because Obama raised their cost, they will not pass that cost onto you-------------Right? You end up paying more even if you earn less than $250,000. I sincerely hope that health care and health insurance becomes more affordable for all. I mean - Obama did tell us that - didn't he.

Threats to Democrat Congressmen: How Convenient.

A closed door meeting was held with Dems.  Then good 'ole Stenny comes out and says there have been death threats. If the meeting had occurred in open session, I would be a lot less skeptical.

The radical playbook requires them to make themselves the victims. If they can make us step back, they win.

Having said that:

If you want to kill the momentum to repeal Obamacare and allow the Progressives to continue their march toward Immigration, Cap and Tax and who knows what else, make stupid threats to Congressmen.

When you make threats of physical violence, you become just like the radicals who are now in power. The '60's radicals learned the lesson well, put on suits and ties, and took over.

The radicals need a villain, someone to target.

We must not give them more ammunition.

They will make up lies. Based on video from last weekend, they already have.

We must not give them any true incidents to verify their lies.

Obama's Ultimate Undoing

Obama Admits Healthcare - Not Jobs or the Economy - is "Most Important Domestic Priority" You heard it from the horse's mouth. Tell this to the millions of folks who do not have a job. The healthcare issue crippled him and the economy is going to be his undoing.

Tea Party Misbehavior

The MSM will work hard to make us focus on a couple of idiots yelling racial slurs. It gives them cover to ignore the thousands that showed up in Washington today.

Thousands, representing millions of us that are fighting every way we can to prevent this bill tomorrow from becoming law.

Maybe the Dems Believe Their Own Lies

I've worked with delusional clients for twenty years. Listening to Obama now makes me think he's not lying...at least now.

One of Clinton's talents was an ability to compartmentalize the truth, allowing him to temporarily believe his own lies. It requires a master liar to do that.

Obama is not a master liar of clintonian proportions. He has now fallen into one of the many traps along the path to becoming a Master Liar. He believes his own lies. He's told the story so many times that he now believes it's true.

This makes him far more dangerous than Bill Clinton. It makes Obama delusional. And while most delusional people are not dangerous, most delusional people are not leaders of the free world.

I pray there are members of his party who do not share his delusions, and can look past the lies. It's the only chance this nation has to remain free.

Hugh Hewitt: One of the Best Sources For Conservative Activists

I've listened to Hugh Hewitt for years. He is not on radio here in Oklahoma, but thanks to the internet, all radio is local. A law professor and radio host, he was the first to see blogging as more than a passing fad, and still one of the best sources of info and conservative activism around.

Why Longinus' Spear?

What a weird title for a blog. What? Were all the normal names already taken?

Nope. Lots of names still available. There are a couple of reasons for the name.
First, the story of Longinus' Spear, or the Holy Lance, is interesting in and of itself. You can read the story by clicking the Title of this post.

The name Longinus first came to my attention way back in the '80's, thanks to a series of books by the late Barry Sadler. I bought, and still have, every original book in the series. After Sadler's death, other writers took over the series. But Casca:The Eternal Mercenary was Sadler's baby, and no other author could quite catch the feel of the character.

In 1991, I bought my first computer, a Mac Classic.  $1400, discounted to $1200 due to the education discount as I was working on my Master's Degree from Wheaton College. 4MB of memory, and a HUGE hard drive of 40MB! A B&W 9-inch screen and a handle on the back, making it very portable. It came with a 56K modem, and a free floppy disc for something called America Online. My screen name for this new service was Longinus. No numbers, no NOTHING tagged on. Wish I had kept it when I moved on to MindSpring a few years later. It would actually be pretty valuable today.

So, there you have it. The history of Longinus' Spear. For awhile, I used it to start a bible study with a couple of good friends. Then, it just kind of languished. Now, thanks to a renewed interest in blogging, and the need for both Elwin and I to vent, LS is back. Hope you enjoy. Let us know what you like, and what you don't. Doesn't mean we'll change anything, but it would be great to hear from you nonetheless.

Blogging has come a long way...

I stopped blogging a couple of years ago. Stopped using Blogger before that. Coming back is getting easier all the time. Google has added so many new features and upgrades, like this one. I'm blogging from my IPhone to two blogs, and could include Facebook and Twitter if I wanted. How cool is that?

A Political Geek's Dream

C-Span is making all 23 years of coverage available...for free. What a treasure trove of historical moments, from the Iraq War vote to the Clinton Impeachment hearings and Senate trial. Wonder how it will look on my IPhone?
Here's a sample, from the days of the impeachment of Clinton.
